Making your own fresh vegetable juice is really beneficial to the whole family. Not only are you making it easier for them to get their 5 a day but you’re also avoiding the many hidden sugars and additives found in traditional juices.
Making your own fresh veggie juices is one of the quickest, most powerful ways to lift the nutritional intact of your family, and, thus, improve your family's health. This is especially vital for anyone who is ill or fighting serious health issues. Use blends according to a person's digestive ability, age and health, with respect to allergies and personal preferences, too.
It's easy to dilute strong flavors by adding fruit or to thin the juice down by adding water. I prefer, quite often, a taller, more refreshing drink, on a hot summer morning that I can add ice cubes to and sip on the deck.
You do want to drink your juice fairly quickly, though. The nutrients are at their peak right after juicing.
Here’s how to get started:
1. Get a good juicer – A good juicer is worth its weight in gold. You can get years out of use from an initial investment and have fresh juice all year round. Look for a strong and sturdy model that’s easy to use. If it’s too fiddly you may be put off using it on a regular basis.
I picked up my first juicer at a Clearance rack at a local store. It is a small simple machine that regularly sold for between $40.00 and $50.00. It was marked down to $6.00! Do you think I care if it takes a bit longer!
By the way, it was marked down because something was missing from the package. I discovered it was the manual. Five minutes later I had downloaded it. For FREE.
But the bigger, heavier juicers do a better job, faster, more efficiently and will make more juice before needing to be cleaned. If you plan to make fresh veggie juice for a large family, or to make it often, then purchasing the best quality juicer that you can is highly recommended.
Once you have a good juicer in place here are a few recipes to help you make fresh veggie juice quickly and easily, that are not only fairly frugal choices, but that are easy and sure to be enjoyed by the whole family:
2. Choose organic or farm/garden fresh when possible to make your fresh veggie juice for optimum nutritional value. But, that isn't always possible if the extra expense of "organic" doesn't fit in our budget. There are some fruits and vegetables that are heavily treated with pesticides - The Dirty Dozen - those you want to avoid. Some other plants are safer to use, called The Clean 15, and those, if you can't purchase all organic, are the ones to buy non-organic. Please see note at bottom of page.
Clean all the fruit and veg, prepare by cutting into chunks that will easily fit through your juicer's feed tube, and then run it through the juicer according to product instructions. (Always read these first)
Depending on the consistency you like add water as appropriate.

I actually soak my leafy vegetables that might have a bug or two hiding in them by placing them in a bowl of cold water for a few minutes until I feel any dust residue and stray little critters are released. Really swish them through the water and shake well before using.
