*Do you remember the hit single 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' by Bobby McFerrin. That song has a very catchy way of conveying the simple message "Be happy" to everyone. Easier said than done, we might argue. But not only is living a happy, resilient and optimistic life wonderful, it is also good for your health. Being happy actually protects you from the stresses of life that may be linked to illnesses, such as, heart disease, cancer and stroke.

The only thing in life that will always remain the same is change, hard as it is to accept. How can we change our feelings or attitudes? Aren't we just stuck with them? It's important to know - we have the power to make any necessary changes.

Here are some Be Happy Tips that may help:

1.Social networks or relationships are essential to happiness. But they can be difficult, too. Change your attitude to one of understanding and watch the world around you change for the better. Accept each person for who they are (we're all different), avoid clashes, let go of resentments. If arguments seem unavoidable, make an effort to understand all the sides and you might find the whole situation defusing.

2.Being grateful is a great attitude. We have so much to be thankful for. Thank the taxi driver for bringing you home safely, thank the cook for a wonderful dinner and thank the guy who cleans your windows. Also thank the mailman for bringing your mail, thank the policeman for making your place safe. Notice the beautiful world around you and be thankful for being alive.

3.News is stressful. Get less of it. Some people just can't start their day without their daily dose of news. 99% of the news we hear or read is bad news. Instead, find a positive way to start - and end - your day.

4.A religious connection is also recommended. Being part of a religious group with its singing, sacraments, chanting, prayers and meditations foster inner peace. In very difficult moments, you can stand steady on the firm foundation of your faith.

5.Learn something new everyday. Learning makes us open our minds, expand our horizons and get a new perspective on life. Maybe even more opportunities in the future.
